More info about Imerovigli
Regarding sightseeing in the area, the most popular place to visit in this area is Skaros, an enormous rock formation lying in front of the village. The path to Skaros Rock is one of the best hiking trails in Santorini and is relatively easy to follow.
The ruins on Skaros Rock are the only remnants of a 13th-century castle that was abandoned in the 18th century and collapsed after an earthquake. The castle used to house all the administrative offices of the island, although barely any signs of its existence remain today.
Other places worth visiting are its various churches and chapels that stand out for their beautiful architecture.
The most renowned religious structures include the tiny Agios Ioannis Chapel (on the way to Skaros Rock), Theoskepasti Chapel (on the rock itself), Agios Georgios Chapel (above the volcanic cliffs), and Anastaseos Church in the heart of the village, which is one of the famous blue-domed churches of Santorini.

susie67 02 Jun 2010Calm alternativeImerovigli is a small village set atop the highest cliff in Santorini. I visited Fira first and then I came to know about this village. It is like is a suburb to the capital of Santorini, Fira. The altitude of Imerovigli once helped the inhabitants to keep a tap on the pirate ships coming towards Santorini for loot.
Imerovigli is not very crowded by tourists. It is a quiet place and gives some of the best views of the volcano and the caldera. A huge stone, called Skaros by the locals, stands in front of Imerovigli. I got to know from the locals that this stone was once a part of this land but got detached due to the earthquake that hit this island in the year 1956.
There are many hotels in Imerovigli but the atmosphere is very scenic, not crowded at all. I believe it gives a calm alternative to Fira if you are looking for accommodation. Fira is a transport hub and has lots of bars, so probably it would result busy for some, but Imerovigli remains calmer all day round.

Giovani_T 09 Aug 2007A picturesque village with great atmosphereHello, I'm Italian and I'm 23 years old. While I was in Santorini I decided to go to Imerovigli village because some friends recommended it. I was staying in Kamari, and I got to Imerovigli by a scooter. The condition of the road was not so good, but I really enjoyed the trip to the village. I also used a map.
The village is picturesque with labyrinth streets and beautiful architecture. Also it is clean, perched on a hill, with offering views, restaurants, cafes, and has a great atmosphere.
In the village can be found things such as telephone, bank, mini market, restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs, shops, travel agencies, museums, hotels and other accommodations.
My favorite thing about it was the offering view.
The only thing I would suggest to the authorities to fix is some streets.
I really liked this place and I would definitely come back again.
A tip for future visitors would be to visit all villages of the island.
