Mykonos Panagia Paraportiani

Location: Town

The lovely church of Panagia (the Virgin Mary) Paraportiani in Mykonos is among the most photographed churches on the island.
It is located at the entrance of the Kastro neighborhood, right by the sea.
Its name (Paraportiani) translates into standing next to the door, meaning that the church lay next to the Castle door.

The special thing about the church is that it consists of five small churches, built one on top or next to the other.
The church of Agios Efstathios is the center of the complex, surrounded by the churches of Agios Anargyros, Agios Sozon, and Agia Anastasia. On top of those four churches, lies the church of the Virgin Mary, which looks like a dome.

The five churches were not constructed at once, but gradually over the centuries. The oldest church is Agios Anargyros, constructed in the late 14th century. The other churches were built in the 16th and 17th centuries, while several renovations took place until 1920.

How to get there

The Church of Panagia Paraportiani is located in the Town, just a 7-minute walk away from Fabrika central bus station and 5 minutes from a parking lot.

Private transfers: We recommend using an online pre-booked transfer service, which provides transfer by taxi, minibus, or private VIP car and arranging a pickup directly from the port, airport, or your hotel. Alternatively, there’s the option of arranging a pickup by a local driver at the following numbers: 0030 694 764 1474, 0030 22890 22400, or booking your taxi online.

Car rental: There’s the option of renting a car and picking it up directly from the airport, port, or your hotel. Using a car rental allows visitors to discover Panagia Paraportiani and many other places of interest at their own pace.

Public transfers: Note that there are two central bus stations in Mykonos town: Fabrika and Old Port. There are bus connections between this bus station and most areas of the island. Itineraries might change according to the season. Check the official timetables here.
Tip: Since buses don’t always stop at every scheduled stop of their itinerary, our advice to visitors is to inform the driver about their final destination in advance.

    Impressively white
This is a small church in Kastro, the most picturesque quarter of Chora (along with Little Venice). It is right next to the sea and the guide book said that the entrance doors of the Castle used to stand there, which is why the name of the church means "standing next to the doors". A beautiful church and impressively white. It is seen frequently in the postcards of Mykonos. I can't exactly describe you how to get there because the streets are too messing, you will just find it as you walk around.
