Beautiful sunset points are scattered around the island, so you will not have a hard time finding one. All caldera villages built on the west side of Santorini facing the volcano (such as Imerovigli, Fira, and Oia) offer lovely views. Oia, which is located on the northwest side of the island, has the most beautiful views since you can see the sun literally diving into the sea!
There are different places that stand out. Some of the best spots are:
• The Castle of Oia: One of the most popular sites to gaze at the sunset. It lies on the very edge of the village overlooking the Aegean sea. Unfortunately, the place becomes very crowded during that time of the day; that means that in order to find a place to stand or sit, you need to be there at least one hour ahead of the sunset time. Due to its popularity, you might feel overwhelmed by so many people around you.
• 3-dome church: Located 10 minutes (walking distance) from the Castle of Oia but less crowded during the golden hour.
• Ammoudi: A fishing village with fish taverns in the foothills of Oia. It is ideal for dinner with seaside views.
• Agios Ioannis yellow chapel: A unique remote chapel close to Oia with fantastic views and a more private atmosphere.
• The lighthouse: A lovely location on the southwest side of the island with fewer crowds.
• Three bells church: It is located in Fira and offers the perfect Cycladic background for memorable photos.

Due to the fact that the romantic sunset of Santorini is so magical, couples prefer to spend the late afternoons in the company of each other. Public transfers: In Oia village lies the terminal of the bus route Fira > Oia. Fira is where the central bus station of the island is located. Bus connections between this bus station and most areas of the island are available. Buses to Oia depart approximately every hour. Note that time schedules might change according to the season. Once in Oia, the most famous place to watch the sunset is the Castle. To avoid the crowd, there is a nice spot right near the three blue-dome churches of Oia (located 10 minutes away from the castle).
Tip: Since buses don’t always stop at every scheduled stop of their itinerary, our advice to visitors is to inform the driver about their final destination in advance.
