Single Holidays in Greece & the islands

Over the last years, it is becoming more and more frequent that people come to Greece alone, on single holidays. Besides families with kids, romantic couples, newly-weds, elderly and large groups of friends, you will see alone travelers who enjoy a long day on the beach or relaxing by the hotel pool with a cocktail at hand.

Single travelers may not have company when they arrive in Greece, but surely they will find from the first days. The Greek people are hospitable and eager to talk, while even foreigners are more relaxed on holidays and keen on meeting strangers. The beach, the night bar, the shops, the museums, the tours, everywhere is a good place to meet other people.

Single travelers in Greece can go where they want, whenever they want. Some single tourists do not even have a schedule from before, they come to Greece and take the first ferry to the islands. It is easier for them to choose where to go, which site to visit, what to order in taverns. They rely simply on themselves.

Greece is an absolutely safe place for foreigners, even for single women. Especially the Greek islands are safe to walk even after midnight. In Athens, people on single holidays should be more careful and avoid places like Omonoia, Metaxourgio and Patission Ave, which have a high criminality rate. The rest of Athens city centre is safer, but you should better choose a hotel in central place (like Syntagma, Kolonaki, Plaka), avoid being alone after midnight and do not look like tourist as they are considered more easy robbing targets.

Many hotels also organize special programs for single travelers. They may organize a full program with dinners, group activities like hiking, cycling or seminars, and also tours to ancient sites, beautiful villages and beaches for swimming. This is a good opportunity for singles to meet each other and spend some time with company, if they want.
