Villages in Kefalonia, either cosmopolitan or off the beaten track, are picturesque and enchanting. Most of them were affected by the disastrous earthquake of 1953, except for the colorful Fiscardo on the northern side of the island.

In brief, Fiscardo is the most renowned village due to its busy marina and charming setting. The neighboring Assos is a calmer alternative and among visitors' favorites, too. Argostoli is the island's capital and boasts the airport and several points of interest, while Poros and Sami host the main ports of Kefalonia.

Location: 49.5 km north of Argostoli, on the northernmost spot of Kefalonia
Description: Fiscardo is one of the prettiest villages in Kefalonia. Surrounded by beautiful greenery, the centre of activities in Fiscardo is the port, where fishing boats and yachts moor in summer.

Description: This is a picturesque village on the northern side of Kefalonia. It's situated on a peninsula with a castle overlooking the delightful bay.

Description: Poros is a picturesque village and one of the main ports of Kefalonia. This is where the ferries from Killini Peloponnese arrive.

Location: 35 km west of Argostoli
Description: This town is a short ferry ride away from Argostoli and there are quite a few similarities between the two. Lixouri is smaller than Argostoli but has a lovely waterfront and elegant architecture.

Description: A village with samples of local architecture, Svoronata lies close to lovely beaches. The surrounding region is lush and well-developed in tourism.

Location: 8 km southeast of Argostoli
Description: Peratata is a small village built on the slopes of a hill. The castle of Saint George and the monastery of Agios Andreas dominate the village.
