Located in the heart of the Saronic Gulf, near the islands of Poros and Agistri, Aegina Greece is one of the most popular islands for quick getaways, thanks to its proximity to Athens! Many ferries from Athens depart from Piraeus port and arrive there in less than an hour.

Agia Marina is the most popular seaside resort on the island, while more secluded places to visit are Souvala, Vagia, Marathon, and Perdika.
The island’s capital, on the western side of the island, is also the main port lies. In this colorful little town, you’ll find a great selection of cafes, restaurants, traditional taverns, shops, especially along its bustling waterfront.

As for its beaches, although they aren't that many, they are enticingly beautiful! Most of them are small, but organized with many facilities! The best ones are Souvala beach, Agia Marina beach, and Marathon beach.
Around most of these beaches, you’ll also find a selection of hotels, seaside taverns and beach bars. But if you’re into more secluded beaches, many of them are available along the island’s coastline!

The most popular ancient monument is, hands down, the Temple of Athena Aphaia, a Doric temple sitting in the center of the island. Other important sites, apart from the Temple of Athena Aphaia, are the Temple of Apollo and the Temple of Ellanios Zeus.

  • Picturesque town
    The main town of Aegina is constructed along the port. Its architecture distinguishes for the many elegant Neoclassical buildings.
  • Ancient Temple of Aphaia
    In close distance to Agia Marina, on the eastern side of Aegina, is an impressive ancient temple dedicated to Athena Aphaia.
  • Marathon beach
    Marathon is a nice sandy beach on the southern side of the main town. This place has an organized and an unorganized part to more privacy, as well as many tourist facilities.
  • Boat trip to Moni islet
    In summer there are boat trips from the small port of Perdika to the secluded island of Moni. This island has blue green waters and a nice beach bar to relax.
  • Paleochora ghost village
    In the centre of the island, there is the abandoned village of Paleochora. Once this village was the capital of Aegina, but now it is largely ruined. The village has many Byzantine churches.
  • Archaeological Museum
    Next to the ancient site of Kolona, in a walking distance from the Town, is the interesting Archaeological Museum with exhibits from excavations around the island.
  • Day trip to Agistri island
    Only few min ferry ride from Aegina is the lovely island of Agistri. With blue green waters and lush greenery, this is a wonderful place for a day trip from Aegina.
