Serifos is a small island of the Cyclades complex, located in close distance from Athens. This is why Serifos is a popular weekend destination, as many Athenians hop there for short summer breaks. Life in Serifos mostly concentrates in Chora, a picturesque town with Cycladic style constructed on the slopes of a hill, while a lot of nice beaches are found along the coastline. Most beautiful beaches include Livadi, Livadakia, Psili Ammos, Ganema, Vagia and others. The most interesting site in Serifos is the Old Mines, just above the village of Megalo Livadi. These mines are abandoned today, but they were the place of a historic strike in the early 20th century.
