Amorgos is an island of the Cyclades located east of Naxos and is part of the Small Cyclades sub-complex of islands.
It has two ports that receive ferries from Athens (Piraeus) and other islands of the Aegean. The main port is located in Katapola, while Aegiali hosts the second port.
Amorgos does not have an airport. Therefore, the ferry is the only means of transport that can take visitors to the island.

POPULAR ROUTES TO AMORGOS

Amorgos is considered a remote island of the Cyclades and is connected with Athens and other islands only by sea. The absence of an airport on the island has determined its touristic growth, keeping it a bewitching hidden gem.
Most visitors arrive in Amorgos by ferry from Athens and, more specifically, from the port of Piraeus. Another popular way to approach Amorgos is by ferry from the nearest islands of Naxos and Paros, or from other islands such as Koufonisia, Schinoussa, Iraklia, Donoussa, Mykonos, Santorini and Folegandros.

Important notice: Ferry schedules may vary every year. The itineraries for the summer season are announced by the companies in March. As soon as the schedules are officially announced they automatically appear on our booking engine so you will be able to proceed to your booking or check departure times and rates.

• How long is the duration of the trip?
The crossing can last from 5h35m to 10h, whereas the average time is around 7.5 hours. That depends on the ferry type (conventional or high-speed), the stops to other islands, and, on some rare occasions, the weather conditions.

• How much do the tickets cost?
Prices depend on the vessel (conventional or high-speed). Some indicative prices are:

  • €51.5 for the conventional Blue Star from Piraeus with a trip duration of 9 hours.
  • €85.5 for the high-speed Blue Star from Piraeus with a trip duration of 5 hours and 35 minutes.

• What ferries are operating from Athens to Amorgos?
Two types of vessels operate this route: conventional and high-speed ferries. All belong to the Blue Star company.

> Conventional ferries
Conventional ferries are large vessels with many spaces (indoors and outdoors). They boast large garages, allowing passengers to take their vehicles with them. Air-conditioning is always on in the indoor areas and eating and drinking establishments and shops are part of the premises. If you are traveling with a dog, an organized kennel is available. However, depending on the vessel, you may be able to keep your dog with you on the deck. Challenging weather conditions (strong winds, storms, etc.) rarely affect those vessels so they usually arrive and depart on time. Travelers can enjoy the beautiful sea views while having lunch or a coffee on deck.
Types of seats: Deck/Economy, Air seat/Economy, Business, Cabins
Price range: €51.5 - €86
Vehicle: €32.5 - €60 (Moto), €116.5 (Car), €138 (Small truck)
Timetable: There are five departures per week for this type of vessel from Piraeus during the summer season.

> High-speed ferries
High-speed vessels are smaller than conventional ones and travel at high velocities. All seats are air-seats and are located in an air-conditioned indoor area since there are no outdoor spaces. You can buy snacks and beverages from the ferry's canteens. Some ferries have a garage so passengers can transfer their vehicles. The number-one advantage of choosing a high-speed ferry for your trip is that the crossing's duration is shorter. Their small size, however, allows challenging weather conditions to affect them and delays may occur.
Types of seats: Air seat/Economy, Air seat/Business, Air seat/VIP.
Price range: €85.5 - €100.5
Vehicle: €32.5 - €60 (Moto) - €116 (Car), €137.5 (Small truck)

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the port of Amorgos?
The island of Amorgos has two ports. The largest and the main port is located in Katapola, while the other one is in Aegiali. Both receive passenger ships from Athens and other islands of the Aegean. Katapola is located in the central part of the island, while Aegiali is in the northern part.

How to get from the ports to the beaches?
Some of the island's beaches are connected to Katapola and Aegiali by local buses (KTEL). From the two ports, one can take a bus to the beaches of Agios Pavlos and Agia Anna. From the beach of Agios Pavlos, you can board a boat to the neighboring island of Nikouria and visit its beach. However, most of the beaches are accessible by car or on foot, so it is recommended that you rent a car if you do not plan to bring your own to the island or do not want to walk to the various beaches.

What is better? Flying or taking the ferry to Amorgos?
Amorgos has no airport, so the only way to get to the island is by ferry. During the summer, ferries depart from the port of Piraeus in Athens to Amorgos every day. Alternatively, Naxos and Paros have national airports that receive flights from Athens, while Mykonos and Santorini have international airports that accept both domestic and international flights. All four islands are connected by ferry to Amorgos, so you can fly to one of them and then hop on a ferry to Amorgos.
