Zakynthos is the southernmost of the Ionian Islands (excluding Kythira, which is located southeast of the Peloponnese but falls within the Ionian Islands) and lies beneath Kefalonia and Ithaca.
The island has a main port located within Zakynthos Town and a smaller port called Agios Nikolaos in its southern part, in the area of Volimes in particular.
The first receives passenger ferries that depart from the mainland, while the second welcomes vessels that operate the route between Zakynthos and Kefalonia.

ROUTES TO KEFALONIA

Zakynthos is a Greek island that visitors can reach by ferry. Crossings from/to it are available throughout the year. All ferries departing from the mainland leave from Kilini, a port situated in the northwestern part of the Peloponnese.
Usually, during the high season, local ferry boats approach Kefalonia, too.

Important notice: Ferry schedules may vary every year. Most ferry companies announce their official timetables in March. You can find and book all available ferries on our booking engine, as soon as they are officially announced.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the ferry port in Zakynthos?
Zakynthos' main port is located within its capital - Zakynthos Town. It receives all passenger ships coming from the Greek mainland (Peloponnese). At the same time, a small harbor is located in Agios Nikolaos (Volimes), a village on the northeastern part of the island; that only receives passenger vessels that depart from Kefalonia (Pessada).

How to get from the port to the beaches?
Zakynthos Town is the center of all activities. The main KTEL (public) bus station is a 15-minute walk from the port. From there, visitors can purchase a ticket, get on a bus and head to the most renowned areas on the island, like Laganas and Kalamaki. Car rental desks are also situated throughout the town. Visitors who arrive from Kefalonia can only leave the port of Agios Nikolaos via a private vehicle.

How to get from the airport to the port?
The airport of Zakynthos is located less than 4 km from the main port. In order to reach it by public transport, you have to board a KTEL (public) bus from the airport to Zakynthos Town. The frequency of the routes changes depending on the season so it is recommended that you visit KTEL Zakynthos' official website or call the central office before arriving on the island. A taxi rank is situated outside the Arrivals area, too.
On the other hand, Agios Nikolaos port is situated approximately 30 km away from the airport. Public buses don't approach this region so the only way to reach the harbor is via a car.
In order to be comfortable and not think about the weight of your luggage or missing the bus service, consider renting a car! They can deliver it to you at the airport and you can start your excursions directly to the different parts of the island!
