Lemnos is an island rich in history and natural beauty. The most special thing about Lemnos island is the strange beaches, vast in size and covered with soft golden sand. Keros, Zematas, Thanos, Agios Ermolaos and Gomati are such fantastic beaches with a desert look. In fact, windsurfing and kite are popular activities at Keros and Zematas. Lemnos is also a place with interesting archaeological sites, dating from the ancient and Medieval times. Worth visiting are the Medieval Castle of Myrina, Ancient Poliochni, Ancient Ifestia and Kavirion with the Cave of Philoctetes. In Greek mythology, Lemnos was a special island as this was the homeland of the Amazons and also the place where god Hephaestus had his workshop.

Byzantine Castle
CastlesThe Byzantine Castle of Myrina stands on a hill overlooking the town. It was built by Emperor Andronicus Komninos and it can be accessed only on foot. Some deer live close to the Castle and the locals take good care of them.
Ancient Poliochni
Ancient SitesThis ancient settlement dates from the beginning of the 3rd millennium B.C. and it is thought to be the oldest settlement in Europe. Ancient Poliochni is located 30 km east of Myrina.
Sand dunes
OtherThe Sand Dunes are located in the northern part of the island. There are constantly changing shape and dimension with the wind.
Ancient Ifestia
Ancient SitesIfestia was the second most important town on the island in ancient times. It took its name from Hephaestus, the god of fire, who was the protector of the island.
Temple of Kavirio
GeneralThe Temple of Kavirio dates from the 7th century BC and it is believed that secret ceremonies were held there.
Cave of Philoctetes
OtherThe Cave of Philoctetes is located close to the archaeological site of Kaviria. The myth says that the Greeks abandoned a wounded man there, Philoctetes, on the way to the Trojan War.

Aliki Lake
OtherThis is a lake of special natural beauty and habitat for emigrant and endangered species. It is located on the northeastern side of the island, close to Kondopouli.
Archaeological Museum
MuseumsThe Archaeological Museum is housed in a beautiful Neoclassic building in Myrina. During the Turkish occupation, the building was used as the Turkish headquarters. Today, visitors can see various collections, such as findings from the excavations in ancient Ifestia, Kavirio, and other sites, which date from the Prehistoric till the Hellenistic period.
Agios Efstratios Island
OtherThis little island is lying one hour and a half from Lemnos. Agios Efstratios (or Ai Stratis, as it is called by the locals) was a place of exile for the communists from 1928 till 1963. A strong earthquake in 1968 destroyed the traditional architecture of the island.
Folklore Museum
MuseumsLocated in the village of Portiano, this Folklore Museum consists of an impressive collection related to Lemnian folklore. The three-storey building which houses the museum is of traditional Lemnian architecture and it has been beautifully preserved. The museum has numerous showrooms, each one with a different theme, according to the collection they exhibit.

Waterfalls
OtherThe waterfalls are located near the beach of Agios Ioannis, on the west side of the island. There are 2 of them: Ragavas waterfalls and "Hanging water".
Seal cave
OtherThe Cave of the Seal (or Fokospilia)is located near Moudros, next to the bay of Mikro Fanaraki and is accessible by boat or foot. It is said it is a refuge for the rare seals Monachus - Monachus.
Church of Agios Nikolaos
ChurchesThe church of Agios Nikolaos is located on a hill and overlooks the whole town and the port. It is impressive in size and has strange architecture.
Maritime Museum
MuseumsLocated in Nea Koutali, the Museum of Maritime Tradition and Sponge Fishing consists of various items which are dedicated to the maritime and sponge diving traditions of Lemnos. The museum provides a lot of information on how these two sections have progressed over the years.
Cape Falakro
OtherThis Cape is a wonder of Nature. It is actually a set of red rocks and sand, combined in strange formations. It is located north of Atsiki.
Ecclesiastical Museum
