Heraion Sanctuary
Ancient SitesThe tradition said that in this village goddess Hera was born and grew up. This is why a sanctuary to Hera (Heraion) was constructed in the ancient times. The temple was destroyed in the 6th century BC for an unknown reason. Its renovation was never completed. Later on, the sanctuary was turned into a Christian church.
Tunnel of Eupalinus
Ancient SitesThis tunnel is dried today but it used to be the aquaduct of the ancient city of Samos and one of the greatest technological achievements in the ancient times.
Castle of Lykourgos Logothetis
CastlesThis tower was built in the 19th century by Lykourgos Logothetis, the leader of the Revolution of Samos against the Turks. Two Roman galleries and a beautiful church are found in the yard of the castle.
Archaeological Museum
MuseumsThe Archaeological Museum of Vathy is located close to the port. It hosts findings from excavations on the island that date from the Prehistoric till the Hellenistic times. The most impressive exhibit is the Colossal Kouros, a man statue of 5.5 m tall.
Pythagorion Archaeological Museum
MuseumsThis collection is housed in the Town Hall of Pythagorion. It contains sculptures, inscriptions, statues and fragments of graves dating back to the Archaic and the Roman period.
Roman Baths
Ancient SitesJust outside Pythagorion, on the way to the airport, there are the remains of a large Hellenistic gymnasium. In the Roman times, this gymnasium was turned into a public bath.
Tours to Kusadasi in Turkey
OtherSince Samos is very close to the Turkish coasts, many daily tours are frequently held to Kusadasi, the Turkish town right opposite Samos.
Cave of Pythagoras

Museum of Samos Wines

ChurchesThe Monastery of Prophet Elias was constructed in the 17th century and was renovated in the 18th century by monk Gregorios. It is located 4 km south of Karlovassi.
Transfiguration of the Christ
ChurchesThe beautiful church of the Transfiguration of the Christ is located right next to the Castle of Logothetis in Pythagorion. It was constructed in the 1830s by the leader of the Revolution in Samos, Lykourgos Logothetis, after a victory against the Turks.
Museum of Tanning
MuseumsThe tannery museum is located in Karlovasi. It presents a sector which was at its highest peak from the beginning of the century until a few decades ago. The museum is housed in an old leather processing factory.
