Boat tour to Patmos

General Description

On this boat tour we depart at 8:00 am from Pythagorio Port and after 2 and a half hours we reach the island of Patmos.

Patmos is part of a submerged volcano. It is a significant Christian pilgrimage site. On this tiny island, St. John spent his exile in AD 92. The Cave of the Apocalypse is where John of Patmos (St. John the Theologian) is believed to have written a part of the Bible, known as the Revelation.

A fortress-like, 11th-century monastery dedicated to the Saint overlooks the whitewashed houses of the hilltop capital, also known as Chora. This great Monastery houses some famous scripts and icons, some of which are very rare. The view of Patmos from the Monastery is quite spectacular.

Upon your arrival on Patmos, a guided tour begins with the assistance of an experienced guide. You will be taken by bus to the Cave of the Apocalypse (entrance fee of 3 euros is to be paid on the spot) for half an hour visit, and further on to the village of Chora, where you will visit the famous monastery of St. John and the museum (entrance fee of 5 euros is to be paid on the spot) for a one-hour guided visit.

After the tour, you will have approximately 20 minutes of free time. Then we return to Skala Port, where you will have the chance to spend the remaining time while walking all over the harbour, resting and having lunch.

We depart at 15:20 from Patmos, and we arrive in Pythagorio at approximately 18:00.

- In order to enter the monastery, knees and shoulders must be covered
- Photography is not allowed in the cave of Saint John
