Thessaloniki has a large shopping centre and gives visitors the opportunity to buy easily all kind of items. The most popular shopping spot of Thessaloniki is the city centre. Although it is a bit small, there are plenty of shops in the streets Tsimiski, Ermou and Egnatias.
Many coffee houses and restaurants are located between Aristotle (or Aristotelous) square and Nikis Avenue, the waterfront of Thessaloniki. In these streets, you will find all kind of stores, from brand-name clothing stores and famous jewerly to small shops with bargain opportunities.
Other popular shopping centres are also Kalamaria and Pylea. Although they are located a bit outside the city centre, they are connected with frequent buses to the city centre.
In Thermi, close to the airport of Thessaloniki, there is Mediterranean Cosmos, an impressive mall with large shopping stores and cinemas. The interior is colourful and creates a cheerful atmosphere. Shopping stores are open all day long, from 9 am to 9 pm, while cinemas work till a couple of hours after midnight.
Very popular and special are also the open markets in the centre of the town that remind of oriental markets. There are can find food, local products, jewerly, clothes, shoes and many other items. Such a popular open market is Modiano Market, close to Ermou street, where you can feel some really traditional vibe. Once in Thessaloniki, also do not miss to taste its delicious, traditional sweets. The most famous pastry shop is Chatzis but there are also many others along the city centre and the Old Town.
Shops in Thessaloniki are generally open from 9 am till 2 pm and three times a week, they also open from 5.30 pm to 9 pm. They generally accept credit cards, unless they are small stores or kiosks. Better ask the staff if they accept credit card before you pay.
