Greece is administratively divided into 13 Districts (‘Peripheries') and, at a next level, into 51 Prefectures (‘Nomoi').

There is also an autonomous area, Agion Oros, on Mount Athos (in Macedonia Periphery).

Local communities are named either ‘Dimi' (city) or ‘Kinotita' (community). There are totally 900 Dimi and 133 Kinotites.
