Overview:
Volos, in the centre of
Greek mainland, at an approximately equal distance from the two main urban
centers, Athens and Thessaloniki, is situated also
at the innermost point of the Pagasitic Gulf and at the foot
of Mountain Pilion. It is developing into a dynamic city, equal to European
standards, with a new and modern university, an active cultural life, with
highlights also of traditional features, and varied choices for leisure and
entertainment. Volos economy is based

Especially Pilion has a rich
folk tradition reviving lively even today. Of the most famous cultural
festivities taking place in Magnesia are the "Maides", the May-Day tradition in
Makrinitsa and the Pilion Weddings, with historic elements.
