Skopelos map
Capital: Skopelos or Chora
Overview:
Skopelos is an exclusively
green island. Its rich vegetation offers incredible natural scenery, as the
largest part of the island is covered by pine forests and fertile fields.
Beaches, fishing spots and villages remain unspoiled by the modern influences, while
from archaeology there is not much to see. The island is particularly known for
its wine, the Skopelite pie, the virgin nature and the colorful view.

Religious feasts and the
Skopelos carnival: The last two weeks of the carnival period are celebrated
with much feasting and merrymaking on the island of Skopelos. The young, the
old and the children disguise themselves and stream into the streets of the
island. These masquerade groups are called "moutsounes", after the mask they
wear. The Greek word "moutsouna" actually denotes a mask. Moreover, these
people perform short sketches satirising various everyday situations as well as
human behaviour and nature on local level or not.
