Kozani Prefecture is a large region on the crossroads of Macedonia and among wonderful natural landscapes. The River Aliakmonas and the artificial Polyfytos Lake, mountains and valleys with rich flora and fauna, palaeolontological and historical findings, Byzantine and modern monuments, all define the unique beauty of the area. Special Events:

Of the most notable festivities in Kozani are the customs of "Kladaries" (December 23^rd) and "Kavalarides" (=Riders) (August 14^th-15^th) in Eratira, the "Roca Dance" festivities after Easter in Galatini, the "Mamogeri" custom (on Epiphany day), the Kozani Carnival and carnival "Boubousaria" (January 2^nd) in Siatista. Others are the Wine Festival in Pelekanos (August 20^th-31^st), trade Fairs in October, "Tranos Horos" (=Great dance) on August 15^th in Vlasti and a Sausage Festival at Velvetos (January 18^th).
