Overview:
Kozani Prefecture is a large region
on the crossroads of Macedonia and among
wonderful natural landscapes. The River Aliakmonas and the artificial Polyfytos Lake, mountains and
valleys with rich flora and fauna, palaeolontological and historical findings,
Byzantine and modern monuments, all define the unique beauty of the area. The
numerous cultural events and the delicious local products make Kilkis worth
visiting.

Special Events:
Of the most notable
festivities in Kozani are the customs of "Kladaries" (December 23rd)
and "Kavalarides" (=Riders) (August 14th-15th) in
Eratira, the "Roca Dance" festivities after Easter in Galatini, the "Mamogeri"
custom (on Epiphany day), the Kozani Carnival and carnival "Boubousaria"
(January 2nd) in Siatista. Others are the Wine Festival in Pelekanos
(August 20th-31st), trade Fairs in October, "Tranos
Horos" (=Great dance) on August 15th in Vlasti and a Sausage
Festival at Velvetos (January 18th).
