Overview:
Kilkis Prefecture lies around the
valley of the river Axios, at the site of the ancient Amfaxitida, and is
surrounded by the mountains of Paiko, Belles and Kroussia, as well as the Doirani Lake. Its natural
borders define beautiful landscapes of natural environment and unique habitats
for rare species. The sights of the area bear witness to a long history, while
the local events blend tradition with modern life.

festivals are Agios Trymphonas Fair on February 1st in Goumenissa,
the Battle of Kilkis-Lachanas celebration on June 21st, Monogeria on
January 1st, the Kilkis Trade Fair early September, Kourbani and
Syntagka in Polykastro, Theotokia on August 15th in the Monastery of
Panagia the Goumenissa.
