The hotel was named after the archaeological name "Aiges",
which was the first capital of the Macedonian kingdom until 399 B.C.,
when Arhelaos king moved the capital to Pella.
Aiges is believed to be in the area of Vergina where at the moment
only few parts of the city have been found.
In the theatre of Aiges, Philip II was murdered in the 336 B.C.
during the celebration of the wedding of his daughter Cleopatra with Alexander, King of Epirus.
It was also a tradition to bury all the Macedonian kings in the city of Aiges.
