Overview:
Chios Island faces the Minor Asia and is separated from Erithrea peninsula by the Canal of Chios. It has a long history as attested by the numerous monuments and sites. The scenery is described by natural diversities and contrasts; rocks and barren land on the north, lush vegetation on the south. Its capital is a cultural centre with vivid tradition.

Special Events:
The most important festivity is the Anniversary of the Independence of
Chios on November 11th. Other events take place on New Year's Eve and
on the last Carnival Sunday in Thimiana village with the feast of
Mostra. The Cultural Society organizes various festivals, while
religious feasts take place all year round in many districts.
